French List: Le Petit Prince

The important stuff:  Written in 1943 by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (translated as The Little Prince)

What it's about in a nutshell: A pilot crashes and meets the little prince in the desert. The little prince tells the narrator about the different planets he has been to and about his own home planet, why he left it, and that he would like to get back. 

Why you should read it: It is a touching story and the little prince is such a beautiful, serious character.  The last part of the story is particularly endearing to me.  I haven't read this one is a very long time, but I'll be rereading it soon.  It's a novella after all, so it's short, but very sweet.

    Our French students read this in French. During that assignment, I have to remove my English copies from the library so they can't check them out! Some day I should read this.

    I look forward to reading all your Paris in July posts! :) Last year I had the opportunity to see a stage production of The Little Prince (in July, coincidentally) and it was marvelous. It's such a wonderful story.

    Thanks for reminding me about this little book. I have a copy in English and one in French. (I was feeling very ambitious when I bought the French version.) Reading it led me to read Sand, Wind, and Stars about Saint-Exupéry's experiences as a commercial pilot. Very poetic.
