Top Ten Tuesday: Intimidating Books

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the ladies over at The Broke and the Bookish.  Don't forget to stop by their blog!

This week's topic: Top ten most intimidating books.

Hmmmm, so I don't usually feel very intimidated by books.  I mean, they are books!  For reading!  But there are a few that do give me that cringing sort of feeling which makes me sort of afraid to pick them up.

1. Le deuxieme sexe by Simone de Beauvoir.  For some reason I'm afraid to read this one.  I have it in French and I keep putting it off because like, what if it's way over my head??

2. Les Miserables, in French.  I decided actually to buy it in English.  I don't know why, I read lots of books in French.  But for some reason I felt like it would be too much to take on.  So, English.

3. Books like The Odyssey, mainly because I'm pretty sure it would be a waste of my time because I wouldn't enjoy it.

And I seem to be having a hard time with this topic!!  I can't wait to get home from work and see what everyone else has to say!  I'm sure I'll be reading some of your lists going "Why didn't I think of that?!"

  1. Classics always daunt me, esp philosophical texts, like de Beauvoir's or ones like The Odyssey -- I'm doing the Classics Club to read, like, 100 classics over 3 years, and I've not yet started. I keep putting it off! :/
