R.eaders I.mbibing P.eril VIII

Autumn is just around the corner and what better way to start it off that by participating in the RIP reading challenge??!  I love spooky stuff, and although I've been blogging away for years, this is my first year participating.  It's hosted by Carl at Stainless Steel Droppings.  You can read anything that is considered mystery, suspense, thriller, dark fantasy, gothic, horror, supernatural, or really anything spooky.

I'm doing Peril the First, so I'll be reading four books.  I have yet to decide what those four books are though.  I just went over to my shelves and realized that I don't actually have very many unread books on them.  And maybe like one that would work for this.  I think maybe a trip to the bookstore is in order??

Are you participating this year, or have you participated in the past?  Any spooky books you recommend?

  1. This is my third (I think...) year participating--and it's the one time I deliberately choose "spooky" books. I'm a scaredy-cat normally. Here's my list for this year:

This New & Poisonous Air by Adam McOmber
The Haunted Doll's House by M. R. James
Famous Ghost Stories by Bennett Cerf (ed)
    The Temple of Death by A. C. & R. H. Benson
The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson
The Croquet Player by H. G. Wells

    My list from last year:

The Necropolis Railway by Andrew Martin
A Stranger in My Grave by Margaret Millar
Vincent Price: The Art of Fear by Denis Meikle
    The Somnambulist by Jonathan Barnes
The White Forest by Adam McOmbe

    And my first list:

Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice
The Blood Detective by Dan Waddell
    Haunted Ground by Erin Hart
Beast in View by Margaret Millar

The White Forest, Haunted Ground, and Beast in View are all excellent!

    1. Oooo thank you for the recommendations! I will definitely check those out. I am also a complete scaredy cat, but I constantly read (and especially watch) really spooky things. Which isn't always the great idea when you're home alone :)

  4. I decided to jump on board with this one this year as well. I have a TON of unread stuff in this vein (hoarding) and a bunch of upcoming stuff in my must read list as well.

  5. I managed to pull a few from my shelves, but I'm waiting for more RIP reads to come from the library. Enjoy your bookstore visit!

    1. I really should try the library first. I have to renew my card and I know I owe them some money.. But it is sooo much cheaper than the book store ;)
